Just So You Know

The Kindle Edition of Times of Joy and Sorrow became available for download today (December 1, 2016). This small book is a collection of the best of the short stories I have written over the years. I wanted to have all of these stories together in one volume. The paperback version will become available for purchase in just a few days.

Storyteller vs. Writer

Someone recently told me that I was a great writer. Although I thankfully accepted the compliment, it did give me something to think about. Great or not, I had always assumed that I was both a writer and storyteller. However, after reading several blogs on the topic, I now know that many people, (authors, writers, and readers) view the two as different undertakings.

I’ve always been told that I have a vivid imagination and I guess that’s the storyteller in me. I am often able to see stories in the most ordinary things. It could be a news report, a relevant song, or an historical event. It is usually something that touches me emotionally and that may spark my imagination. Obviously, I don’t write every story that occurs to me, but often I come across one that I just cannot ignore. The stories seem to sometimes write themselves in my head.

However, conveying my imagined scenarios to others is not an easy task. That’s where the writer takes over.

So, I end this exactly where it started. Although others may see writers and storytellers as different, I am still convinced that I am both a writer and a storyteller.
