Sharon Kay Penman skillfully brings the ancient world alive in our imaginations. Outremer, The Land Beyond the Sea, is brought vividly to life, as is the life of the Leper King of Jerusalem, and the fight for it’s survival. It took me quite a while to read this novel as it is not one to zip through, but a novel to relish and digest. I am eagerly looking forward to the next Penman historical novel.
